Eric Garcetti sworn in as US Ambassador to India
Former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has been appointed as the new US Ambassador to India. US Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday formally administered the oath of office to Eric Garcetti as the US Ambassador to India. The post of US Ambassador to India was lying vacant for the last two years. The US Senate earlier this month confirmed Garcetti’s nomination as the next US ambassador to India. This cleared the way for Garcetti’s appointment to the post of US ambassador to India, which had been vacant for more than two years.
Asked about his new diplomatic role after the swearing-in ceremony, Garcetti said, “I look forward to serving in this position.” The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Garcetti’s wife Amy Weakland, father Gil Garcetti, mother Suke Garcetti, mother-in-law Dee Weakland and several other close family members.
