It was also announced by the DMDK party headquarters early on Thursday morning that Vijayakanth has been kept on ventilator support by the doctors of a private hospital in Chennai due to his Covid-19 test positive.

DMDK leader Vijayakanth was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. Even before this, DMDK chief Vijayakanth had been in and out of private hospitals in Chennai due to various chronic illnesses. DMDK leader Vijayakanth had also traveled to the United States of America for medical treatment of his serious illnesses in the year 2017. In the US, DMDK chief Vijayakanth underwent an organ transplant. In the month of June 2022, all the toes of DMDK chief Vijaykant were also amputated due to severe diabetes for a long time.
Vijayakanth, born Vijayraj in the house of Alargarswami and Anandal of Madurai, rose to prominence in the Tamil film industry by becoming a star along with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Vijayakanth’s simple nature earned him the admiration of a large number of fans, fans have also honoured Vijayakanth by the nickname of ‘Karuppu MGR’ as well as ‘Puraichi Kalaignar’. After Vijayakanth’s 100 th superhit film ‘Captain Prabhakaran’, all the supporters made Vijayakanth famous by lovingly addressing him as ‘Captain’.

Even as an NDA alliance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Vijaykant campaigned extensively for PM candidate Narendra Modi, which helped Vijaykant establish his identity as a national leader among the public at the last moment. DMDK chief Vijayakanth, speaking at the parliamentary party meeting soon after his election, was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his election campaign in the entire Tamil Nadu state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “DMDK chief Vijaykant is my best friend.”
DMDK chief Vijayakanth had also joined hands with the four-party alliance People’s Welfare Front and presented himself to the public as the chief ministerial candidate in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Vijayakanth was last seen attending a public event on December 13 at the key DMDK General Counseling meeting to be held at Thiruverkadu, near Chennai. Vijaykant, with the help of his colleagues, sat on a wheelchair and remained present in the hall for about half an hour.
When the council unanimously appointed DMK chief Vijayakanth’s wife and DMDK treasurer Premlata as the general secretary of the DMDK party.
The DMDK party is one of the important regional parties recognized by the Election Commission in Tamil Nadu.
