Shimla, August 20: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday felicitated meritorious students of Government Senior Secondary School Kothi Deora Ghatti School during his one-day visit to Solan district. Addressing a public meeting on this occasion, the Chief Minister announced to start commerce classes in Government Senior Secondary School Kothi Deora Ghatti School and said that kits will be provided to Kabaddi players. He said that the state government will provide necessary funds to complete the construction work of educational institutions whose buildings are 60 percent complete so that they are completed within two years.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that for state level sports competitions, the government has increased the diet money from Rs 240 to Rs 400, Rs 300 for district level and Rs 240 for block level. The diet money given to the players participating in sports competitions outside the state has been increased to Rs 500. Along with this, the state government has also increased the travel facilities given to the players participating in sports events organized outside the state. He said that tournaments will also be organized at the district and state level in the age group of 14 years.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has been working for the last 20 months to provide quality education in government schools, so that the future of the young generation can be improved. He said that Himachal Pradesh has slipped to 18th position in the quality education ranking, so the present government is making extensive system changes in education. To remove the lack of confidence among the students studying in government schools, the state government is going to open Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools in a phased manner in every assembly constituency in rural areas, which will have facilities like smart class rooms, audio-video visual teaching and sports.

Along with this, schools have been given the option to choose smart uniforms as per their choice. He said that 99 primary schools in the state had zero student strength, which have been closed by the state government, while schools with less than five students are being merged and futuristic courses are being started in educational institutions on the basis of need, so that quality education can be provided to the students. He said that there may be some resentment due to tough decisions, but pleasant results will come out in the coming time.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “I myself have studied in a government school. In school, we used to sit on mats and sometimes we used to get scolded by teachers. I want to say that after home, school has an important role in the development of a child, but we have to think why the number of children in government schools is decreasing. I have special focus on quality education and health of children and steps are being taken by the state government in this direction.”

He said that the state government is paying special attention to quality education and for the first time 200 teachers have been sent to Singapore on an exposure visit. He said that from next year, the state government will send students along with teachers abroad on exposure visits. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also heard public problems.
