Tuesday February 20: The Supreme Court has given a historic verdict in the entire matter of Chandigarh Mayor elections. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of the Supreme Court has ordered that the 8 votes declared invalid in the mayor’s election are going to be valid.

The country’s top court has declared Aam Aadmi Party’s Kuldeep Kumar the winner for the post of Mayor.

The Supreme Court has declared the votes declared invalid as valid. Returning officer Anil Masih had declared these votes illegal. Because of this, the common candidate of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress had to face defeat on January 30. BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar became the Mayor of Chandigarh by securing 16 votes, out of 36, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Kuldeep Kumar got 20 votes. 8 votes were cancelled. The result of Chandigarh Mayor election was challenged in the Supreme Court.

Know the complete Calculations of Chandigarh Mayor election –

BJP has 14 councilors in Chandigarh. After this, Aam Aadmi Party is the second largest party with 13 councillors. Congress has 7 councilors, one councilor is from Shiromani Akali Dal. Local MPs also have the right to vote in the Chandigarh Mayor elections. To win it was necessary to reach the mark of 19 votes. In the BJP camp, there were a total of 15 votes including the vote of the councilors and one vote of the MP, adding the vote of the Alone councilor of the independent Shiromani Akali Dal, the figure was reaching 16.

In the January 30 Chandigarh Mayor elections, the figure was 20, including 13 councilors of AAP and 7 of Congress. 20 votes were cast in favor of the common candidate of Congress and AAP, out of which 8 votes were rejected, hence only 12 votes of Kuldeep Kumar were left, after which the BJP candidate was declared victorious.

On the other hand, till Sunday night there was talk in the political circles that BJP would once again be successful in making the mayor.
