Shimla: BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal has raised objections to the government’s decision to allot Palampur Agricultural University land for tourism development. He claims that the move is being widely rejected by the people of Himachal Pradesh. According to Bindal, the government is ignoring the important role of the agricultural university in preparing future scientists for the agriculture sector, which is important for the farmers of the state.

Bindal said that despite massive protests, the government is not ready to reconsider its stand. Bindal questioned, “We have many other places, which can be developed for tourism. Why is the focus being on land needed for agricultural research and education?” He also pointed out that the disagreement on the issue is not limited to public protests but is also creating contradictions within the state government.

Bindal highlighted that Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar has publicly opposed the use of university land for tourism purposes. “When even the Agriculture Minister is against it, why is the government going ahead? This shows the lack of coherence in their decisions,” Bindal said.

Criticising the state government, Dr. Bindal emphasised the pattern of contradictions within the Congress administration, citing examples of inconsistent policy statements by different ministers. He referred to a recent incident where a state minister suggested adopting the Uttar Pradesh model for managing street vendors, but backed down after facing internal pressure. “One day a minister says we should follow the Uttar Pradesh model, and the next day a chief parliamentary secretary makes a contradictory statement. This government is caught in its own contradictions,” he said.

Bindal also pointed to similar inconsistencies on the part of the Education Minister, who initially advocated following the Uttar Pradesh model in education, but later backtracked on his statement. “These reversals show that the government is confused and is not serving the interests of the people of Himachal Pradesh,” he said.

He accused the government of playing the “victim card” to avoid accountability for its decisions and said the people of the state are bearing the brunt of this mismanagement. “This government has proved to be the most ineffective in the history of the state, constantly increasing the burden on the people and failing to deliver results,” Bindal concluded.

As public outrage over land allotment continues to grow, pressure is mounting on the government to reconsider its approach, with both political and ministerial leaders expressing concern over the future of the Palampur Agricultural University.
