Nahan, August 11: Lance Naik Praveen Sharma (26), son of Habban area of ​​Rajgarh subdivision of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Martyr Praveen Sharma of Palu village of Habban was a part of Operation Rakshak in this encounter which started on Saturday afternoon. Late in the evening, the Indian Army informed the family of martyr Praveen about his martyrdom.

The Sirmaur administration had received information about the martyrdom of Praveen Sharma of 1 Para, after which the martyr’s family was also contacted. It is being told that efforts were started to lift the martyr’s body from the operation area on Saturday afternoon. It could not be confirmed whether the body was removed from the operation area on Sunday morning or not. The body is not expected to reach home on Sunday. According to the message received by the administration from the army, the body will be brought to Chandigarh, from where it will be sent to the native village. Station Headquarter of Nahan has also been instructed to take appropriate action for the last rites of the martyr. Martyr Praveen has left behind his mother Rekha Sharma and father Rajesh Sharma.

According to the information, seeing them surrounded in Gadol of Anantnag, the terrorists first threw a grenade and then opened fire. The condition of the other four injured soldiers is also said to be critical. Indian security forces closed all the routes and intensified the operation to kill them. It is also being told that this is the same terrorist group, which had attacked the army team in Doda and escaped. According to another information, the Election Commission team had gone to Anantnag to take stock of the preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

This fierce encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in Anantnag of South Kashmir on Saturday, the very next day after the return of the Election Commission team, in which two army personnel were martyred.

Media reports also suspect the villagers of being the aides of the terrorists, so their background is being investigated. It is also known that till Sunday morning, the army had cordoned off the area. There were also reports of three terrorists being trapped in the cordon. Although the army has not confirmed, it is believed that this is the same terrorist group that ambushed an army team in Desa area of ​​Doda district on July 16. Four army personnel including a captain were martyred in this attack.

Operation Rakshak is an anti-terrorism operation started in June 1990 at the peak of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. Martyr Praveen Sharma was also selected for this, he attained martyrdom while showing indomitable courage.

On the other hand, Deputy Director of Sainik Welfare Board, retired Major Deepak Dhawan said that the message of the martyrdom of the soldier has been received. The army had informed the family. Instructions for appropriate action have been received from Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta. The administration team and the army contingent are reaching the martyr’s native village.
