Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former MLA Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi on Sunday. Sources said he will be at the party’s national headquarters in the presence of senior BJP leaders. . According to sources, AIADMK leader and former Rajya Sabha member Dr. Maitreyan will also join the BJP on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, CR Kesavan, the great-grandson of India’s first Indian Governor-General C Rajagopalachari, joined the BJP. Kesavan had resigned from the Congress on 23 February.

Kesavan shared his resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Twitter. He wrote that it is no longer possible for them to agree on what the party stands for, represents or wants to propagate.

His resignation comes within a month of being quit by Anil Antony, son of former Union minister AK Antony, who parted ways with the party after coming out in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a controversial BBC documentary. Had joined BJP in presence of ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan. Kerala BJP chief K Surendran and senior party leaders Tarun Chugh and Anil Baluni were also present on the occasion.

Earlier on Friday, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy joined the BJP here in the national capital.

Reddy, the last chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister Pralhad Joshi, general secretary Arun Singh and MP K Laxman at a function held at the party headquarters.
