Mandi, July 20:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur said he would press the central government for area-specific financial assistance to compensate for the damage caused by recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that only through targeted budget allocations can affected areas like Seraj and others begin to recover adequately.
A central government team is currently visiting Mandi district to assess the extent of the damage. Thakur mentioned that he had already raised the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Once the damage assessment report is submitted to the Centre, Thakur plans to travel to Delhi to meet senior central leaders, including the Home Minister, to seek timely and substantial financial aid for the state.
He highlighted that four Assembly constituencies in Mandi — Nachan, Seraj, Dharampur, and Karsog — have suffered extensive losses. “I will personally request the central government to approve area-specific projects to help rebuild and rehabilitate these severely affected regions,” he said.
Thakur also urged the state government to develop area-specific plans for disaster-hit regions. He expressed his gratitude to the central government for its continued support in relief and rescue operations during the crisis.
