Rampur’s Bhadowali Village on Edge as Bear Attacks on Cattle Continue
Residents of Bhadowali village in Rampur are living in constant fear as repeated bear attacks have killed nearly 30 cattle in recent years. Authorities plan camera traps to identify the animal and expedite compensation to affected farmers.
Residents of Bhadowali village in Rampur are living in constant fear as bear attacks on their livestock continue unabated.
Over the past few years, nearly 25–30 cows have been killed by bears in the village. Local resident Sanjay Kaith said, “The bear killed two cows this morning. In the past two years alone, there have been around 25–30 attacks on cattle. Cows are the backbone of our village economy, and these losses have caused severe financial strain for affected families.”
Buddhi Singh, the vice-president of the panchayat, said that the entire community is distressed by the repeated attacks. “The bear enters cowsheds through the roof. It somehow finds its way inside, attacks the animals, and escapes the same way,” he explained.
Rampur DFO Gurharsh Singh confirmed that cattle sheds located near the forest are more vulnerable due to active bear movement in the area. “We will install camera traps to identify the bear involved. If a particular bear is found responsible for multiple attacks, we will arrange to relocate it,” he said.
He added that the department works to expedite compensation for farmers whenever such incidents occur. Ensuring that no human is harmed during these attacks remains a top priority.
