In another major success under its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, the Solan Police have arrested four men from Ludhiana and recovered 62.13 grams of heroin (chitta) from their possession. The operation is part of the district police’s ongoing crackdown on both the demand and supply chains of narcotics, which has led to the arrest of several traffickers over the past two years.
According to officials, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Solan was conducting patrolling and crime prevention duties across Solan, Kumarhatti, Dharampur, and Kasauli areas on Monday when they received a tip-off that a group of youths from Ludhiana was heading towards Kasauli in a car carrying heroin.
Acting promptly, the SIU team intercepted a Swift car at Chhatri Mod, Kasauli, and during the search, recovered 62.13 grams of heroin from the occupants. The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Virender Singh (26), son of Surjit Singh, resident of Jalandhar Bypass, Ludhiana
- Lakhwinder (21), son of Jeevan Lal, resident of Ludhiana
- Kunal (25), son of Rakesh Sonfer, resident of Ludhiana
- Kithu Mattu (20), son of Rishu Kumar Mattu, resident of Ludhiana
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly planning to supply the heroin to youths and students in Kasauli, Dharampur, and surrounding areas. The timely action of the police thwarted their plans.
A case has been registered at Kasauli Police Station under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Background checks showed that except for Virender, the other three accused have previous criminal records in Ludhiana, mostly related to assault and brawls. Kunal has three cases registered against him, while Lakhwinder and Kithu each have one case pending.
The accused were produced before the court on Tuesday. Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to identify other links in their drug network.
