The Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) has scrapped 327 posts across various categories, reducing the total sanctioned strength from 633 to 306.

According to HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, the move is part of a broader restructuring of the state government undertaking. “All vacant posts have been abolished under the restructuring exercise,” he said. “Most of these positions had become redundant, though we will still consider fresh appointments in roles such as Junior Office Assistant (IT).”

The abolished posts largely affect lower-level positions, including 45 senior assistants, 24 clerks, 44 peons, 71 beldars, and 42 work inspectors. A few engineering-level posts have also been discontinued. The decision is expected to cause discontent among HIMUDA employees, as it could impact future promotion opportunities.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the move as being against the interests of unemployed youth in the state. BJP state president Rajeev Bindal said, “The government is shutting down institutions that provide employment, while offering young people jobs paying only ₹4,500 per month.”

He further alleged that while lower-level posts have been eliminated, a new advisor position was created to accommodate a senior official. Bindal also pointed out that the HIMUDA division from Sirmaur district has been shifted elsewhere.
