The family of four-year-old Yug, whose abduction and murder in 2014 shook the entire state, has been left devastated by the High Court’s ruling that acquitted one accused and commuted the death sentences of two others to life imprisonment.

Unaware that the final verdict was to be delivered today, the family members were not present in court. Speaking with tears in his eyes, Yug’s father Vinod Gupta said, “We are not satisfied with the High Court’s order and will appeal to the Supreme Court. After 11 years of endless waiting, this judgment has left us completely heartbroken.” Beside him stood Yug’s grieving mother and grandmother.

“We miss him every single day and want the culprits to receive due punishment. Even after 11 years, our child has not received justice. He was four years old when he was murdered; today he would have been 15,” Gupta said, recalling the horrific crime.

He added, “We have lived all these years only to fight for justice for our son. If it takes losing everything to secure justice, we are ready. We will pursue this case in the Supreme Court, even if it means selling everything we own. Our demand remains that all three accused be sentenced to death, as ordered by the lower court.”

Nearly two years after Yug went missing, municipal workers discovered a skeleton inside a water tank during routine cleaning. Initially thought to be that of an animal, forensic reports later confirmed it was Yug’s remains. The postmortem revealed he had been thrown alive into the tank.

The nightmare began in 2014, when four-year-old Yug suddenly disappeared from Ram Bazaar, leaving the Gupta family in shock. Police were informed and searched extensively, even advising the family to check with relatives. Yet the child remained missing.

Later, Arvind Kumar, an employee of Vinod, disclosed that he had received a ransom note demanding ₹3.6 crore. Vinod immediately alerted the police, who advised him to follow the instructions while setting up a special team to track the kidnappers.
