Assures Himachal of swift central assistance for disaster-hit families

Hamirpur MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur today visited disaster-affected areas of the Dharampur Assembly constituency in Mandi district to assess the extensive damage caused by recent heavy rains and flash floods.

Calling the situation “deeply distressing,” Thakur expressed concern over the widespread destruction of infrastructure triggered by torrential rains, cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides. “It is heartbreaking to see Dharampur’s beautiful landscape so badly scarred. Natural disasters have unleashed unimaginable devastation across several parts of the state, including Dharampur,” he said. Thakur assured that the central government is keeping a close watch on the situation and will extend all possible support to those affected.

During his visit, Thakur met with disaster-hit families, conveyed his condolences, and promised full assistance. He also reviewed damage to public infrastructure such as roads, bus services, and shops, as well as losses suffered by private property owners.

He was accompanied by Dharampur BJP leader Rajat Thakur, who briefed him on the scale of destruction. Rajat recalled that the disaster struck on Monday night during the local Sair festival, abruptly turning celebrations into mourning. “Public and private properties, including HRTC buses, the local bus stand, and several shops in low-lying areas, have been severely damaged or destroyed,” he said.

Rajat further informed the MP that two people remain missing after the floods. He urged Anurag to press the central government for adequate financial relief and emphasized the need for both rehabilitation and long-term reconstruction efforts.

Both leaders agreed that while the local administration has begun relief work, the magnitude of the crisis requires urgent central intervention. They called for the immediate release of emergency funds to repair damaged infrastructure and to ensure compensation reaches affected families without delay.
