Landslide in Sharmani Village, Nirmand, Kullu: 1 Dead, 3 Rescued

The tragedy struck at around 2:00 AM when residents were asleep, leaving very little time for evacuation.
One house was completely buried under debris, from where three people were rescued, one is still missing, and one body has been recovered from the site so far.
A possible landslide triggered by a cloudburst hit the remote village of Sharmani in Ghatu Panchayat, Nirmand subdivision of Kullu district early Tuesday morning, causing significant damage to property and lives.
According to initial reports, the disaster occurred at around 2:00 AM while residents were asleep, resulting in very little time for rescue efforts.
One house was entirely engulfed in debris, with three individuals successfully rescued, one still unaccounted for, and one deceased person recovered from the scene.
Confirming the incident, SDM Nirmand, Manmohan Singh, stated, “The landslide has caused extensive damage in the village. The rescue operation is underway with the support of the local administration, police, and disaster response teams.”
The SDM confirmed the recovery of one body and the rescue of three others from the site. He added that a search operation is ongoing to locate the missing person, though challenging terrain and the risk of further landslides are hampering efforts.
Given the unstable weather conditions in the region, authorities have urged residents in nearby areas to remain on high alert.
Rescue teams continue their operations in the affected area, and further updates are awaited.
