Lower Khalini and New Shimla get entangled in heavy landslide

Continuous rain from about 24+ hours have caused devastation in the lower wards of Shimla. The National Highway from BCS to Khalini has got barred when the tree fell from the site down on the National Highway, last night. The adjacent ward of Lower Khalini also faced loss of the only road that goes down to Jhanjhidi. Along with losses in the Lower Khalini region, two houses got affected due to the landslide that occurred in New Shimla, with road breaking down on the roof of a house, another house, which has got affected with its base got broken. Along with the wards the Bihar Village, met the same fate as the mud that came down from the curve of Madhuban, in passage of Jhanjhidi, early morning at 4:00 am.

The problem arose when the villagers of the adjacent villagers complained about the mud that came down from the road and when the villagers had themselves to clear the road that was affected. Another villager, Keval Ram, whose cowshed was about to get entangled in the landslide reported the team that it was early morning when he got the cows out, and luckily there was no damage to the livestock, although that he needed aid to recover. He exclaimed that no dept, except electricity have had come on to the ground for help.
The villagers were dissatisfied with the authorities ignoring the Pillar which held the road upright and that the cracks were seen a long time ago on the pillar. Other villagers told the team that the pipelines and the electricity wires have been damaged making the region disconnected and helpless. Councilor of Khalini, Chaman Prakash, told the team of Diary Times, that he had taken the course of his ward, as well as the adjacent Bihar village. He said that he reported the J.E. from the department to share the loader with the village, as it was merely, a 100 meters patch, but the JE(PWD Dept), shredded of the responsibility, saying that it wasn’t in their boundary. Also, the Tehsildar of Shimla region assured to talk to the Commissioner regarding the matter. It was observed a clear distinction between the Municipal Corporation’s region and the 100 metres adjacent Bihar Panchayat.

Khalini Councilor, Chaman Prakash, informed the Diary Times team that he had addressed issues in his ward and the nearby Bihar village. He mentioned that he informed the J.E. from the department to collaborate on the loader with the village, as it was only a 100-meter stretch, but the JE (PWD Dept) dismissed the responsibility, claiming it wasn’t within their jurisdiction. Furthermore, the Tehsildar of the Shimla area promised to discuss the issue with the Commissioner. A noticeable difference was noted between the Municipal Corporation area and the adjacent 100 meters of Bihar Panchayat.
A few houses in New Shimla have suffered damage, and similarly, the entire Shimla district has experienced some minor harm in its lower areas.
