Landslides in Solan: 68 roads blocked, power and water supply disrupted

Continuous rainfall since Sunday night triggered multiple landslides in Solan district, severely disrupting daily life. Water and electricity supplies have been hit, and as many as 68 roads remain blocked.

Following a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning issued by the Meteorological Department on Monday, the District Magistrate ordered all educational institutions to remain closed and directed staff to conduct online classes from home.

The worst-hit is Solan sub-division, where 23 roads are closed, followed by 21 in Kasauli, 16 in Arki, and eight in Nalagarh. Despite the rain showing no signs of abating, the Public Works Department has deployed workers and machinery to clear blocked routes.

Power supply across the district has been severely affected, with 899 electricity distribution transformers knocked out. Kasauli subdivision alone reported 433 outages after uprooted trees brought down power lines. In Baddi, 226 transformers went out of service, while Arki and Nalagarh reported 122 and 118 failures respectively, leaving vast areas without electricity since midnight.

Water supply was also disrupted in several parts of Solan and Kasauli, while seven water supply schemes in Baddi and Nalagarh suffered damage.
