Boeing Seeks EU Approval for Spirit AeroSystems Deal

Boeing (BA.N) has applied for European Union approval to reacquire Spirit AeroSystems (SPR.N), the world’s largest standalone aerostructures manufacturer, according to documents published on the European Commission’s website.

Last July, Boeing announced it had agreed to buy back its former subsidiary in an all-stock transaction valued at $4.7 billion. Under the terms of the deal, Airbus will take over Spirit’s loss-making, Europe-focused operations.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, is expected to issue its decision on the transaction by September 30.

Earlier this month, the UK’s competition regulator cleared the acquisition following an in-depth probe into whether the deal could harm competition in the sector.
