Shimla, August 11 –
On the day of Raksha Bandhan, three schoolchildren from Shimla who had gone missing were safely traced by police. The children were found on Sunday evening in Kokunala, under Kotkhai subdivision of Shimla district. During the operation, police also arrested a suspect, Sumit Sood.

Local resident Raunak Sharma played a crucial role in locating the children and helping police apprehend the accused. Education Minister Rohit Thakur honoured Sharma for his contribution and expressed gratitude for his timely assistance. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised the swift action of the police, noting that he had been in regular contact with the DGP and SSP Shimla throughout the case.

Investigations revealed that the accused, Sumit Sood, had allegedly kidnapped the three children with the intention of demanding ransom. He reportedly transported them in a car bearing a Delhi number plate, which police have since recovered. Sood is also a resident of Kokunala in Shimla district.

All three children are Class 6 students at a reputed school in Shimla. One of them is related to Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, who also travelled to Shimla on Sunday.

Given the seriousness of the matter, police formed special teams led by ASP Navdeep Singh and DSP Amit Thakur. Through an active investigation and search operation, the teams successfully rescued the children and reunited them with their families.
