Shimla, August 1:
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has allegedly been targeted through the circulation of false and objectionable videos on social media, aimed at tarnishing his image.

Advocate Vinod Chauhan, in a formal complaint, accused the administrator and content creators of the Facebook page “Yuva Josh” of deliberately spreading misleading, edited, and defamatory content. He stated that the intention behind these posts and videos is to damage Jairam Thakur’s public reputation and incite hatred and distrust among the public.

Chauhan called the material entirely false, malicious, and defamatory, claiming it has caused the former CM mental distress, public embarrassment, and posed a threat to his safety.

Based on the complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station in Shimla has registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Sections 353(2), 356(3), 351(2) — and Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The complaint was supported by video clips, screenshots, and other digital evidence suggesting that the content was deliberately created and shared with intent to harm the former CM’s image.

Cyber police have launched an investigation and stated that efforts are underway to identify the admin and content creators behind the Yuva Josh page. Legal action will follow once identities are confirmed.

Authorities have also approached Facebook/Meta, requesting the removal of the objectionable content and full disclosure of the admin’s details to assist in the ongoing investigation.
