Solan, August 1: The two-day annual badminton tournament organized by the Solan Press Association concluded successfully, celebrating both sporting talent and camaraderie among local journalists. The event saw spirited participation and commendable performances from members of the press.
In the singles final, Lalit Kashyap delivered an impressive performance, defeating Sanjay Hindwan in straight sets (2–0) to retain the title for the second consecutive year. Hindwan finished as runner-up.
In the doubles category, the pair of Sanjay Hindwan and Sukhdarshan Thakur emerged victorious, overcoming the team of Lalit Kashyap and Aditya Soft. In the women’s singles, Bhavna Oberoi claimed the winner’s title by defeating Neha Sharma.
The closing ceremony was held at Hotel Grand Paragon, with Ved Garg, Chief Spokesperson of the District Congress Committee, serving as chief guest. He felicitated the winners with trophies, certificates, and cash prizes. Special guests in attendance included Anil Bhardwaj (Vice President, BJP Solan Urban Mandal), Avtansh Garg (Former District Secretary), builder Robin Mangla, Anil Thakur, Ashu, and Kashmir Singh Kapil, department coordinator.
Ved Garg praised the journalists for actively participating in sports despite their demanding professional lives, saying they set a positive example for society. He emphasized the role of sports in promoting health and keeping youth away from substance abuse. He also donated ₹30,000 to the association and assured continued support in the future.
Association President Puneet Verma shared details of the tournament and thanked all supporters and participants. The event was anchored by Ved Arya, Chairperson of the Sports Committee.
Also present were General Secretary Ashwani Sharma, Senior Vice President Som Sharma, Vice President Ashok Vardhan, former President Pawan Thakur, Yashpal Kapoor, Dharmendra Dadhwal, and several other members of the association.
