Hamirpur’s Sanjay Vatsyayan Assumes Charge as the 47th Vice Chief of Naval Staff
Hamirpur, August 1:
Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsyayan, a native of Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, took over as the 47th Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) on August 1. Before assuming office, he paid homage at the National War Memorial, saluting the valour and sacrifice of India’s martyrs. His appointment is a proud moment not just for Hamirpur, but for all of Himachal Pradesh and the nation.
A resident of Heera Nagar in Hamirpur, Vice Admiral Vatsyayan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 1, 1988. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, he has held several critical operational and strategic roles. His exemplary service has been recognised with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Nau Sena Medal (NM).
He has commanded frontline warships including INS Vibhuti, INS Nashak, and INS Sahyadri, and served as Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet, where he led key military exercises and operations. In addition to his operational leadership, he has played a crucial role in naval planning and policy-making, having served as Joint Director (Personnel), Director of Naval Plans, and Principal Director of Naval Plans.
Vice Admiral Vatsyayan’s elevation comes at a pivotal time as the Indian Navy moves toward becoming a dominant maritime force on the global stage. His strategic acumen and leadership are expected to significantly contribute to shaping the Navy’s future capabilities and direction.
In his personal life, he lives with his wife Sarita Vatsyayan and their two children. Expressing gratitude to his family, he credited them as the foundation of his success, saying that this journey would not have been possible without their unwavering support.
His achievement stands as a powerful inspiration for the youth of Himachal Pradesh, especially those aspiring to serve the nation in uniform.
