Shimla, July 28:
The Himachal Pradesh government has ordered the relocation of the corporate headquarters of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) from Shimla to Dharamshala. As per a notification issued by the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation on Monday, the decision has been made in public interest and is effective immediately.

Until now, the HPTDC office was operating from the Ritz Annexe building in Shimla. It will now function temporarily out of the Kashmir House premises in Dharamshala, Kangra district. The government has clarified that this arrangement will remain in place until a permanent setup is established.

Issuing the order, Principal Secretary (Tourism and Civil Aviation) Devesh Kumar stated that the decision follows the recommendations made during a Cabinet sub-committee meeting held on June 28, 2025.

HPTDC plays a vital role in promoting tourism, managing hotels, and overseeing various tourism-related projects in the state. The relocation of the corporate office from Shimla to a major tourist destination like Dharamshala is aimed at easing the growing administrative and infrastructural burden on the capital city.

HPTDC Chairman and Cabinet-rank Minister R.S. Bali had recently announced the decision to shift the office to Kangra district, which was later approved by the Cabinet. Since its establishment in 1972, the HPTDC head office had been operating from a rented building in Shimla. Currently, around 75 employees are posted at the headquarters. The move is seen as part of the government’s broader strategy to decentralize administrative functions and promote regional development.
