Sundernagar, July 23:
Driven by unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva and a strong sense of purpose, Kritika Thakur from Sundernagar has become Himachal Pradesh’s first female Kanwar pilgrim. During this sacred month of Sawan, Kritika is undertaking her second Kanwar Yatra—this time walking from Gaumukh to her hometown, Sundernagar, carrying holy water. Earlier, she completed the challenging journey from Haridwar to Sundernagar on foot.
A native of Derdu village in Kapahi Gram Panchayat of Mandi district’s Sundernagar sub-division, Kritika sees this pilgrimage not just as a religious ritual but as a reflection of her spiritual strength and deep faith. Her devotion to Lord Shiva inspired her to take this vow, and her journey is now becoming a source of inspiration for thousands, especially women.
Inspired by Her Father, Supported by Family
Kritika draws her inspiration from her father Rajendra Kumar and other male family members. When she decided to undertake her first Kanwar Yatra from Haridwar, her family not only accepted her decision but supported it wholeheartedly. This time, her father, uncles, and fellow devotees from her village are walking alongside her, sharing in the spiritual experience.
Excelling in Sports and Studies
Alongside her spiritual pursuits, Kritika is also a dedicated athlete. She is a third-semester student of B.P.Ed at MLSM College, Sundernagar, and an accomplished boxer, having won silver medals three times in state-level competitions. Her achievements in sports, education, and now in spirituality, stand as proof that daughters can excel in every field.
A Personal Milestone with Social Significance
Kritika’s remarkable journey is more than a personal accomplishment—it holds strong social significance. She has shown that women’s participation in religious pilgrimages and traditions is equally meaningful and vital. Her historic step promotes gender equality and stands as a powerful example of religious freedom and inclusivity in society.
