Solan, July 22:
Traffic has come to a complete standstill on the Arki-Shalaghat road in Solan district following a major landslide. Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days has loosened the soil in the region, causing debris and large boulders to tumble onto the road near Shalaghat early this morning.

Long queues of vehicles — including private cars, buses, and goods trucks — have formed on both sides of the blockage. According to local residents, road widening work has been underway along this route, and the ongoing construction has weakened several stretches of the hillside, leading to repeated landslides.

Personnel from the Public Works Department (PWD) are on-site and working to clear the debris as quickly as possible with the help of JCB machines. However, the recurring flow of mud and stones is hampering progress.

The local administration has urged commuters to avoid using this route for the time being and instead opt for alternative roads. Residents in hilly areas have also been advised to remain cautious, as the weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the next 24 hours.
