Shimla, June 11:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its investigation into the mysterious death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). The agency is now thoroughly examining the Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of former HPPCL officials, along with documents related to various projects. Sources suggest that several former officers may be summoned for questioning in the coming days.
According to insiders, the CBI is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to uncover the truth. Records of multiple HPPCL projects have already been requisitioned, and Vimal Negi’s personal assistant has also been questioned. The agency is now delving deeper into various angles, including administrative functioning and project execution during Negi’s tenure.
Earlier, the CBI had taken possession of the complete case file from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Shimla Police. These documents are now being closely examined by the CBI team stationed in Shimla. Documents from HPPCL’s offices are also under scrutiny.
The CBI officially registered an FIR in Delhi and has since formed a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising DSP Brajendra Prasad Singh, Inspector Pradeep Kumar, and Sub-Inspector Nilesh Singh. Signaling the seriousness of the case, two senior officers—a DIG and an SP—have now joined the team on the ground in Shimla.
The central team is currently based at the government-run Grand Hotel in Shimla, from where it is coordinating the investigation. In recent days, the team has also collected crucial records from the New Shimla Police Station, which could prove key to unraveling the case.
Possible Revelations Ahead
Sources say the investigation is not only focused on the immediate circumstances surrounding Negi’s death but also on his professional responsibilities, project involvement, and his working relationships with former colleagues. With several critical documents under examination and a list of individuals being prepared for questioning, significant revelations may emerge in the days ahead, potentially reshaping the entire course of the case.
