Mandi, May 8:
A tragic accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Sunday afternoon has deepened the grief of families already mourning a loss. A jeep carrying villagers to a funeral veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Sanpalu Nala in the Gohar sub-division, resulting in two fatalities and injuring around 20 others.

According to reports, residents of Bhurla and Jhamad villages were en route to Majhothi village to attend the funeral of an elderly person. All were traveling in a goods carrier jeep (HP 31 D 2869). Around 1 PM, as the vehicle neared Sanpalu Nala, the driver reportedly lost control, and the jeep plunged nearly 50 meters down into a rocky ravine.

Two passengers, Bodh Raj (son of Lachhi Ram) and Neelmani (son of Shahdu), both residents of Bhurla, died on the spot. Hearing the loud crash and cries for help, nearby villagers rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts.

Soon after, a team from Gohar police station and ambulance services arrived. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Gohar, and those with serious injuries were referred to Nerchowk Medical College for advanced treatment.

Mandi SP Sakshi Verma confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered. Tehsildar Krishna Kumar also reached the site and assured immediate relief assistance to the injured and the families of the deceased on behalf of the administration.
