New Delhi, May 14:
BSF (Border Security Force) personnel Purnam Kumar Shaw, who was apprehended by the Pakistan Rangers on April 23, was handed back to Indian authorities on Wednesday morning. The repatriation took place at 10:30 AM through the Joint Check Post (JCP) at Attari, under the supervision of officials from both countries.
Shaw was detained after he inadvertently crossed the international border into Pakistani territory. Upon learning of the incident, Indian authorities immediately engaged with their Pakistani counterparts through diplomatic and military channels, requesting his safe and early return.
After nearly two weeks of dialogue, Pakistan responded positively, and Shaw was officially repatriated in the presence of officials from both sides. The BSF has expressed satisfaction over his safe return and extended its gratitude.
An internal inquiry is currently underway to determine how the jawan crossed the border. The incident once again highlights the sensitive and high-alert nature of duties performed by security personnel stationed along the international border.
