Shimla, May 13:
A delegation of the Gaddi community, led by newly appointed Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation, Manoj Kumar, met Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today to express gratitude for appointing a representative from the community to the important post.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the state government is aware of the challenges faced by the Gaddi community and is committed to addressing their concerns. He announced that the government is actively considering an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wool and will take a final decision after consulting all stakeholders.

“The aim is to ensure that sheep and goat rearers receive a fair price for their produce, which in turn will strengthen the rural economy,” the Chief Minister said.

Highlighting the government’s people-first approach, he also mentioned the special relief package introduced following the 2023 monsoon disaster. “Under this initiative, financial assistance for the loss of sheep, goats, and pigs has been raised from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 per animal,” he said. He further added that the government is exploring options to enhance this assistance in the future to better support livestock-rearing communities.

Earlier, Manoj Kumar thanked the Chief Minister for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Wool Federation. He pledged to work with dedication and live up to the expectations placed upon him. His appointment, he said, is a matter of pride for the entire Gaddi community, particularly in Chamba and Kangra districts. Kumar also appreciated the government’s decision to increase compensation for livestock losses.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh and other members of the delegation were also present during the meeting.
