Shimla, May 10: In line with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s directive, the Himachal Pradesh government has initiated efforts to ensure the safe return of students studying in Jammu & Kashmir. As part of this move, a group of 39 students from Himachal Pradesh left Srinagar for Jammu at 11 a.m. today. The transportation was arranged by the Jammu and Kashmir State Transport Department.
Originally expected to reach Jammu by 5 p.m., the bus was delayed due to heavy traffic congestion near Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Officials now anticipate the students will arrive in Jammu later tonight.
Dr. Nipun Jindal, Managing Director of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), said that the state government, following the Chief Minister’s instructions, is in constant coordination with officials from Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. An HRTC bus has already been dispatched to Jammu to bring the students to Jasur in Kangra district. However, due to the travel delay, the students will now resume their onward journey to Jasur tomorrow morning.
CM Sukhu has directed that all students be brought back home free of cost. The state government has also made arrangements for the students’ safe overnight stay in Jammu. Once in Jasur, additional transport will be arranged to ensure they reach their respective hometowns without inconvenience.
