Amid India-Pakistan Tensions, Himachal CM Holds Emergency Meeting—Orders Heightened Vigilance in Border Areas
Shimla, May 9: With rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Himachal Pradesh government has ramped up security preparedness across the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired an emergency meeting in Shimla on Friday, bringing together all District Collectors (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and senior administrative officials to assess the state’s readiness.
The Chief Minister directed officials to strengthen security in border areas, prepare for potential blackouts, and ensure that all emergency services remain operational around the clock. He noted the recent drone attack in Pathankot by Pakistan and emphasized heightened alertness in Himachal’s border regions, particularly Nurpur and Indora. Blackout protocols will be implemented in these areas if required.
Departments including the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Secretary’s office, the State Disaster Management Authority, the General Administration Department (GAD), and the Home Department have been instructed to remain on continuous alert. Leave for personnel in police, health, and emergency services has been suspended until further notice.
CM Sukhu urged all officials to stay vigilant and maintain close monitoring of the situation. Reassuring the public, he stated that there is no immediate threat to Himachal Pradesh, but all precautionary measures are being taken in light of the evolving national security environment. He appealed to citizens to remain calm, alert, and avoid spreading or reacting to rumors.
