ITI Mandi Shines at District-Level Marathon; Over 200 Students Participate
Jogindernagar, May 1: As part of the “Drug-Free Himachal” campaign, a district-level marathon was organized on Thursday from the ITI Jogindernagar campus. More than 200 female students from 12 ITI institutions across Mandi district took part in the event, which aimed to promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle among youth.
The marathon flagged off at 7 AM, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students who ran not just for competition, but to spread a strong message against drug abuse. The students of ITI Mandi delivered an impressive performance, securing the top three positions and bringing pride to their institution.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of Congress leader Jiwan Thakur, Jogindernagar Police Station In-Charge Sakini Kapoor, ITI Jogindernagar Principal Engineer Naveen Kumari, and sports instructors from across the district. All dignitaries pledged their commitment to building a drug-free society.
The marathon route began from the ITI campus and continued up to Dohag Bazaar in Dhelu Panchayat. Renowned athlete Amar Singh Khanodia—winner of multiple medals in masters games—along with local sportspersons and members of the business community, also participated enthusiastically.
Addressing the participants, Congress leader Jiwan Thakur emphasized the devastating impact of substance abuse on youth and stressed the importance of sports in building a healthy, focused future. He urged young people to actively engage in athletics and contribute to a drug-free society.
Principal Naveen Kumari shared that students from ITIs located in Mandi, Padhar, Paplog, Thalot, Nihri, Sundernagar, Dheer, Chachyot, Bagshyad, and others took part in the event.
The winners were awarded cash prizes, personally presented by Jiwan Thakur. The event not only served as a competitive platform for students but also left a powerful message of social responsibility and collective action against substance abuse.
