Close Call on Wedding Day: Bride and Groom’s Car Overturns After Driver Falls Asleep
Highway horror averted near Mandi as timely help saves newlyweds from major mishap
Mandi, April 19: What was supposed to be a joyful journey turned into a moment of terror when a car carrying a newlywed couple overturned on the Kalkhar-Jahu Super Highway near Masyani, close to Dalwan, on Saturday morning. The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the crash.
The incident occurred around 9 AM, as four people—including the bride and groom—were headed to Bhota. As the vehicle reached a curve near Masyani, the driver is believed to have dozed off briefly, losing control and causing the car to flip onto the highway.
Quick Response by Relatives and Locals Prevents Disaster
A second vehicle, carrying relatives of the couple, was following closely behind and immediately stopped to help. Thanks to their quick action, all passengers were pulled out safely, with no serious injuries reported.
Locals also rushed to the spot and helped upright the overturned vehicle, allowing the passengers to resume their journey within minutes. According to police, the accident took place under the jurisdiction of Hatli Police Station.
No Formal Complaint Filed Yet, All Safe
ASP Mandi Sagar Chandra confirmed the incident and assured that everyone involved, including the bride and groom, escaped with minor injuries. As of now, no official complaint has been registered, and the matter appears to have been resolved on the spot.
The near-miss serves as a reminder of the dangers of fatigue behind the wheel, especially on long drives. Authorities advise all drivers to prioritize rest and avoid driving while drowsy, particularly during wedding or festive travel when schedules can be tight.
