Shimla, March 31: Police have arrested four accused in the murder case of Himachali student in a dispute during the live show of Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma at Punjab University (PU), while the other three to four accused are still absconding. The arrested accused have been identified as Sahil, Raghav, Lavish and Ajay, who are residents of Manimajra. According to the police, none of them are students of PU.

How the dispute escalated

During the show, some youths were making videos by climbing on chairs, meanwhile a chair fell due to a push. An argument started over this. When the dispute escalated, the bouncers intervened and calmed the fight. However, after the show ended, the accused attacked the victim students with sharp weapons behind the stage in the dark.

The deceased student Aditya Thakur was a resident of Nalagarh and was a second year student of CSE (Computer Engineering). According to his friend Arjun Dalal, he had gone to watch the show with his friends Abhay and Anirudh. After the show was over, the accused suddenly attacked and stabbed Aditya in the thigh, seriously injuring him. Anirudh was hit on the head with sticks, which also injured him badly. Due to the loud sound at the venue, the police did not immediately come to know about the incident. Later, Aditya was taken to PGI Chandigarh, where he died. After this incident, there is a plan to tighten security in Punjab University and hand over the security of the campus to the police. However, official confirmation on this is yet to be done.
