Shimla, March 06: The Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed Virendra Sharma, a 2007 batch Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS) officer, as the new Manging Director of HP State Electronics Development Corporation (HPSEDC). The appointment was done through an official notification issued on Thursday.

Sharma is currently the Registrar at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and also held additional charge of Labor Commissioner-cum-Director of Employment in the state. As per the new orders, he would replace the earlier appointed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr. Nipun Jindal who was serving this position as HPSEDC Managing Director.

As per the notification, Sharma shall also continue to hold the present charge of the Labor Commissioner-cum-Director of Employment till further orders as Sharma, effectively handling two crucial portfolios in his present assignment with the state government.

The state government also assigned additional responsibilities to a batch IAS officer of 2008, Rajesh Sharma, in a related move. The Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Sharma will now also be the Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD). This is a new responsibility along with his current position as the Secretary of the Human Rights Commission.

In another major reshuffle, the government relieved IAS officer Devesh Kumar (Batch 1998) from his additional charge of Secretary, General Administration Department.

The new appointments followed by the state government exercise is intended to bifurcate the operation in the state which is one of the crucial administrative sectors of Himachal Pradesh.
